The Gaucho Health Insurance (GHI) Advisory Committee, now named UCSHIP manages the student insurance plan for UCSB students, reviewing the performance of the plan and determining the annual renewal. Benefit revisions are considered by the Committee and recommendations for any changes are submitted to the Chancellor for approval. Committee membership includes campus stakeholders and undergraduate and graduate student representatives, and is Chaired by the Budget Officer or Executive Director of Student Health.
This is an opportunity for an undergraduate student interested in medicine or health policy to learn detailed information about health insurance and the current economic conditions that determine policy rates and coverage, while also advocating for the best insurance plan to serve fellow students. – Committee meets about 6 times a year, starting in late October through early March.
– Committee makes recommendation on the plan design of the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
